Re: Topic Tuesday // What can you do when a loved one doesn't want help? // Tues 22 Oct, 7pm AEDT

what are some strategies you currently use that have helped you or your loved one from time to time?

-take time out for myself even for a few minutes
-go for a scenic drive
-listen to music
-exercise
-watch a movie
-read a book
-colouring in
-take a step back when it gets tough

when im noticing pop getting distressed I find distractions are the best in helping him through that unless he wants to talk.
suggesting strategies that work for him also helps me in the long run as its like crisis has eased.

It is clear that a theme is emerging that I am observing and that is that you all have incredible self-awareness and you can name what is happening and the process you're in. This awareness is so important even though it feels like you can't change your circumstances. It's important to try and focus what it is you can control and that maybe just little things day to day.

ideas I have for the tool box are:

  • Not responding with a sense of urgency
  • Changing the ways you do respond
  • Enlisting the support of others
  • Acknowledging that sometimes all you can do is listen and let them know you are there
  • Before you go to bed write down 3 things that you are going to achieve the next day that are responsive to your needs.
  • Turning your phone off and not being available to anyone for periods of time
  • Doing things that are fun and make you laugh

Re: Topic Tuesday // What can you do when a loved one doesn't want help? // Tues 22 Oct, 7pm AEDT

how do we show our loved one we are there for them- lets see what the community here can share with you on that too!

@Former-Member, @Former-Member , @Spirit1

being there for them

even doing our own self care in the midst of our loved ones

like with my mum , having morning tea with her , or just dropping in each day to say hello or ringing her up

with my mr shaz , sitting together watched shows we taped
