brain shutting down when emotionally and physically tired

Not sure if anyone else experiences this as I know this doesnt happen to non MI's that I know of.

As per previous post yesterday was a very exhausting day, mentally, emotionally and full of triggers which I worked through.

When I get this fatigued and tired I get extremely clumsy like my brain isnt sending the right messages to my body.  Eg. Walking I will trip over easily as I dont lift my feet high enough and properly, I constantly hit my arms and hands on walls through walk ways and basically really uncoordinated.  I probably look like I'm drunk!

Just wondering if this is normal or if there could be something else going on nurologically?

Usually when I get like this I need to sleep quickly and for a good amount of time and keep getting worse until I do so.  Hoping to have a nap when I get home but just wonder if this reaction is normal or not.

Thanks

Re: brain shutting down when emotionally and physically tired

It happens to me when I'm not well, although not specifically when I'm tired.
I end up with my hips and hands covered in bruises from walking into things.
But if you're concerned, just ask your doctor (assuming you have a friendly and supportive doctor!)

Hi @Change123

My husband experienced this for many years - constant stress and worry can cause it and in his case this would of been the main trigger together with stress from being in constant physical pain also. He had a full medical, blood tests to rule others causes out though, this may be helpful to you to give peace of mind. 😊

Thanks @Former-Member & @Former-Member

Yes I sort of figured it was all related and yes its the first sign of going down hill so I know I need that sleep when I get home. I guess I also am in pain a lot but just used to it now so dont go on about it, have a knee that I have had issues with all my life and 2 years ago had the last of my acl cartiledged removed so no cartiledge and need a knee replacement which I'm putting off as long as poss at the advice of the specialist. (they only last 10 years and then you need another) so yesterday after a lot of physical work and the travel up there my knee was giving me lots of grief on top of it. So my brain probably has just said I have had enough plus another factor I guess could be that I'm also going through peri menopause and getting that fatigue as well- oh its a fun time! Smiley Happy

Re: brain shutting down when emotionally and physically tired

@Change123. I think what you described is quite normal. Even for those without MI. Having MI though, most likely makes our clumsiness and memory fog worse - becausewe are also ddealing with triggers as well.
However, if you are concerned, if it is causing increased anxiety, ask your doctor to run some tests. Hopefully it will put your mind at rest.
Also, remember to use your coping techniques to help you through your day. You could even talk to your therapist about new techniques that may help.
I wish you well.

Re: brain shutting down when emotionally and physically tired

Thanks for the topic!

I was in hospital in Oct 2016, & was not sleeping due to a distressed patient in my ward, who was moaning & calling out all thru the night. I went to see if either i could be moved elsewhere & if she could get some assistance. From the nurses reaction to the way i was speaking, i was able to make myself clearly understood. I think that i was fluctuating between angry adult person & frightened kid person.

I felt very vulnerable & alittle scared, as this had never happened to me before.

Re: brain shutting down when emotionally and physically tired

Hi there @Change123 ,

Thank you for posting this as I experience this too when I have been very stressed / conflict with others / or emotionally hurt..
When I feel this way it feels like my head is full of cotton-wool and I struggle to articulate my words. I also become clumsy which freaks me out coz that could draw attention to my numb, messy state
