hi,
i am just wondering if there is anyone who has multiple personality/identity disorder that could give me some advice
my doctor believes that i may have this and has given me a referall to a psychiartrist
i have known that i have another personality since i was about 6 years old but all adults in my life were ignorant of the fact or thought it was something else so now at 24 i have finally sought medical help and found out that i actually have 3 alternate personalities
for me when they come out i dont remember anything its like im asleep or something all im aware of is that ive lost time
is there anyone who has this or knows someone like this
that could give me some advice

Re: multiple personality/identity disorder
Hi @Former-Member,
I think multiple personality is also known as Disassociative Idenity Disorder. You can find information about it here.
I'm not sure if this is relevant but @Change123 has written about how they can experience disassociation here, which sounds kind of similar to your experience in that they cannot really what happened when they disassociate. @Change123 explains in their post that it might be your brain's defense mechanism to protect you when your in harms way. Does this sound like something that you can relate to?
@Neb @Angel and @chemonro have also written in this thread about Disassociative Identity Disorder. I wonder if they can provide some advice?
@Former-Member when do you see the psychiatrist? And the doctor that you spoke with, what type of doctor are they?
Hope this helps a bit.

Re: multiple personality/identity disorder
hi @CherryBomb
first off thankyou for posting as i wasnt actually the one to put this post here i think one of my others copied and pasted it here and i only realised as i got an email about it. i have been talking to @Neb already as they posted on the original thread and as to your questions i am going through the referal process to see a psychiatrist as my GP didnt realize the first place he refered me to only deals with those who need 24/7 care so he is getting in contact with another place and he is a family GP

Re: multiple personality/identity disorder
Hi @Former-Member
Another member here, @Former-Member, experiences the same. She started a thread on the topic called
DISSOCIATIVE DISORDERS (from_PTSD_to_DID)
The last post there has a list of questions to help identify whether this is something that affects you .... it Ma be useful for you when speaking to the psychologist .... even printing and ticking questions on the list that you relate to can help fast-track communicating what you are experiencing.
Take care ....

Re: multiple personality/identity disorder
Hi @Former-Member and @KD2016
I don't have D.I.D. but I have a strong respect for it .... from what I understand it emerges as a "safety valve" to try to protect the whole person through traumatic experiences when they are very young, and the ongoing trauma that occurs along the way afterwards.
There are many others with D.I.D. who have spoken up and shared their experiences, and for many it is possible to create a working relationship, like a time-share, with the different personalities involved in the one person's entity.
I would imagine it is a highly specialised area, regarding counselling and treatment.
I encourage you to keep seeking treatment to help you unite your inner family into a working relationship and minimise hostilities.
❤️💕

Hi @Former-Member
Just to add to the recommendations that Cherry made - there's a great thread called Multiple Personality ASK ANYTHING started by @Twinsanity if you're interested.
Take care,
Nik

Re: multiple personality/identity disorder
hi @KD2016
it makes me sad you feel that way but i have already endured a lifetime alone and suffered far more than most people comprehend i finally found my support my rock and my world when i was 14 we are now 24 and engaged with a little boy who is the world to both of us and my fiance is truly understanding to what im going through what i have been through and what could came and he is still by my side. as for drs practioners and specialists it took me a long time to learn to trust then even longer to lean to let go but as you said they come and go as long as i have my boys i will never be alone and never have to endure on my own again. i really hope one day you find a person like that for you.
i like the fact that even though you dont have it youve come to understand what it is and for me its exactly that a safety valve i have put my story in a few posts a couple in more detail then what i would normally do. and i deff goin to keep going with medical help i need it to help me to feel i can be safe and feel a sense of security with in myself.
hi @NikNik
thankyou i have been to look and even commented
