Hello,
I am new here and to how online forums work but certainly not new to mental health (my lack of).
I want to create this chat so I can share my experiences, knowledge and ideas with people and for this to be a safe space where people can share and discuss their own.
I've lived my life alone, father died when I was 7, mother and remaining family are narcissists, work hates me and I'm apparently too intelligent for school as well as to "mentally unstable" to go anywhere else to learn.
I really like sociology, art, psychology, philosophy and technology and am looking for people with similar interests and interesting Ideas to talk to.
I really like learning, thinking and answering questions.
I'm sure it is similar for many of us struggling with similar issues that we just want to be understood and I believe that the best way to get through tough times is to find a place where you can be listened to and understood.
I don't like being alone and I don't want to be the only one keeping myself sane forever and the best way to learn to help yourself is by helping others as well.
Many of us feel ignored and misunderstood by the world so I want to create a space where all of us unique people can speak truthfully and freely together.
I really want to meet some like minded people and to share ways we can all help each other!

Out of curiosity, and if you feel comfortable, what age are you? And what gender do you identify as? @SilentWonderer

I'm an open book written in another language, but I'm always willing to share.
I currently identify as Non binary and as for my age..
I really don't like having to lie about anything because it only makes things worse but I am under 18 and had to lie to gain access to the forums.
I'm not trying to justify my actions but I have no one to talk to in the world around me.
I'm only a few months off 18 and I'm just trying to hold out until my birthday so I can finally start living my life.
There is basically no support for me because I cant pay for appointments to get diagnosed with anything and the education system has not support staff trained to assist with people as different as me.
I feel like there are two different ages in people.
Physically I'm 17 but mentally I'm quite old.
I hope this answers your questions in some way.

Hi @SilentWonderer I really appreciate you being open and honest about your age. Unfortunately the SANE forums are only for those 18 and above, but we'd love to have you as a part of our community when you are 18. I know it may seem silly needing to wait just a few months, but unfortunately we do need to make sure we're applying our guidelines fairly and consistently for everyone who comes to this space, as well as wanting to make sure you're getting the support that's most suited to you.
I hear that you're having trouble finding support due to the costs related to this and I'd like to share a few options for free support services that are designed specifically for young adults:
- Reachout which has forums too, but specifically for under 25s. They also have options to chat to a peer worker if that's something you're interested in
- Kids Helpline has support and counselling services for young people up to 25 years old
- Headspace offers a range of free counselling and support services for young people, they even have some physical locations where you can see someone face to face if there's a centre near you
- Beyond Blue offers phone and chat counselling as well as forums, with a dedicated space in the forums for under 25s
I'll send all of these to you in an email too so that you have access to them.
We look forward to hopefully seeing you back here in a few months after your birthday.

I can attest first-hand to Headspace being excellent for support!
Good luck, hang in there, and hopefully we'll see you back here once you turn 18!
Sorry we couldn't offer you support at this immediate time 😓
