Living in Chronic Pain effecting my mental health

Hi all new to this forum.

My story started 3 years ago when I developed multiple symptoms without a diagnosis and being stuck daily with pain.

It started with stabbing ear pain in both ears and moved onto stabbing pain in both temples and soreness both sides of head. This was in a period of 3 months. 6 months later I developed full body pain in around my hips and legs, back etc.

Over the next 3 years the ear and body pain got better but the head pain didn’t.

In the last 3 weeks it’s all come back again.

Definitely has effected me both physically and mentally.

Hard not too concentrate on how I am feeling and my anxiety is also a big problem.

Have spent the past 3 years trying to find help with specialists and working with pain psychologist at the same time.

Feel like I am at a all time low with all the pain returning and don’t know how to help myself any longer.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Jake

@Jake13

Hi Jake. Sounds awful, your long suffering pain. I'm certainly no medical professional, but I'm wondering (if you haven't already) you might benefit from a consultation with a neurologist? ...

In the meantime, have you considered an anti inflammatory diet? It may just take the edge off, if nothing else.

Kind regards.

Re: Living in Chronic Pain effecting my mental health

Seen multiple neurologist in Melbourne and tried about 8 different preventatives. Also down the anti-inflammatory diet and few others with out any change.

Hi @Jake13

Welcome to the forums and thank you for sharing your story. It sounds so rough for you right now. It's completely understandable that the physical pain makes affects your mental health. I had a temporary back injury last year after falling down some stairs and felt so down waking up each day wondering how I would get through. I was taking a lot of anti-inflammatory medication and felt like it would never end.

Have you sought a second opinion for the pain? My friend has fibromyalgia and it took some time for a diagnosis. Drs wouldn't believe she was in so much pain.

Hoping others reach out to you who can relate

Warmest wishes

Hanami

Re: Living in Chronic Pain effecting my mental health

Sorry to hear this @Jake13 Have you looked into Earthing using an earthing mat? It can significantly reduce pain. I use it for a multitude of things including weightloss. There are testimonies online about people suffering with pain that get around 75-85% pain relief with it.  Pain is an awful thing. I hope you can get it attended to soon. I know how it can ruin your life and make everything unbearable.  BTW To do earthing properly your skin needs to touch the earthing mat not wearing socks etc I keep it under my desk and put my feet on it. There are earthing mats for your bed but they are a bit pricey.  Please have a look around the internet to see more about earthing.  It became a craze when it came out all those years ago as people were getting results with a variety of complaints.

Re: Living in Chronic Pain effecting my mental health

Thanks for the reply much appreciated.

So you recommend just a feet version or whole body?

Any suggestions where you would buy one online or what price they go for?

Regards Jake

Re: Living in Chronic Pain effecting my mental health

Hi Hanami,

I am at a second pain clinic know trying nerve blocks without much luck.

Also to hard for a GP as not just a headache.

Do struggle throw each day with pain as it knocks me around and pain medication hasn’t helped.

Are you out of pain now.

I wish I could just reduce the pain some how so I can bear it.

Re: Living in Chronic Pain effecting my mental health

Hi @Jake13

I am glad you have posted and welcome to the forum.

I have had chronic pain for years - I am in the private system where there is good treatment available - I am getting relief I did not have in the public system.

Still - pain clinics vary - if two are not helpful - it's worth looking further - a pain in itself I know - but the further you look the more help you might get.

I do know how hard it is - and it does make it hard to get through the day - and head pain - that has to be really tough.

Yes - I care - there is little more I can add except to keep in touch - you are most welcome

I wish you the best of luck - or better than luck

Hi Owlunar,

Thanks for the response and kind words.

Yeah really struggling with the head pain and conventional pain relief doesn’t work.

I am at my second pain clinic now doing explanatory nerve blocks without much luck.

When you mention private system who are you referring too?

Private Hospital or private specialists?

Are you in Australia?

Regards Jake
